I haven't updated my LJ in forever, but it felt appropriate now.
I've always sort of feared when the day a band I love would disband would come... and now it's happened.
I first heard D'espairsRay in late 2005. Found the video to Garnet on a website that had a lot of Jrock PVs. I immediately liked them and later on I saw the video to Born.
I became a fan in 2006 and I also saw them live for the first time that year, in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was on my own, but I had a blast. I nearly cried when my grandparents came to pick me when it was over up because I just wanted to go back in there and have the concert start all over again.
The next year, in the summer they came to my country, Sweden. I went with an online friend, Emma and one of her friends, Nubia. The crowd was ridiculously rowdy and Nubia pulled me out of it to stand on the side instead where we could see everything without getting crushed. I had a great time once again and left the concert having gained a new friend in Nubia.
They also had a signing the day before the concert that I went to. They had just released MIRROR and were signing the booklets in a record store in Stockholm. I bought my copy of MIRROR there anad got it signed by all four members. I was so nervous and excited I was shaking and it was probably the most exciting 30 seconds of my life, lmao.
The summer of 2009 was the last time I saw them, also in Sweden. I had a terrible tonsil infection that left me in excruciating pain and yet I was determined to go. I took a cocktail of painkillers (that only made the pain somewhat bearable) and got my ass there. I couldn't really sing along or be as lively as I would've liked, but I had a great time anyway. I remember when they played "Forbidden" and I closed my eyes and felt like I was the only person in the venue. One of my favourite songs of theirs.
Hearing that they've decided to disband was... a shock. I had expected them to come back. I guess I didn't realise how bad Hizumi's throat condition was. In the end, his recovery is the most important thing, but of course I will still miss them a lot. I have many great memories of them and their music will always mean a lot to me.
Thank you for all these years, D'espairsRay! I hope we can meet again someday.
